Paddle is an app that connects homeowners with local tradespeople in seconds. The tech start-up wanted to shout about its pilot launch across the Greater Manchester region and needed an agency familiar with both the construction and tech sectors – right up our street!
The core aims of the campaign were to build awareness of Paddle in both the trade and consumer markets, and encourage Greater Manchester residents to sign up. To achieve this, we went back to basics and built a campaign that combined strong press coverage with social media support.

As a brand-new business to market, we started by devising Paddle’s communications strategy and tone of voice. Following this, we built a hard-working press office, centred around research into the DIY dos and don’ts of UK consumers – which proved popular in the consumer media. We also worked closely with the trade press to craft and tell the story of co-founder, Ben, a plumber who had created the app off the back of frustrations with similar services.
Over the three-month sprint campaign, we achieved:
- 23 pieces of press coverage covering national, regional and trade press
- Backlinks in 43% of all coverage – driving traffic to the site
- Introductions to three key trade associations to discuss partnerships
- 600+ social media engagements
