Over a year ago The Boy’s Brigade appointed us to help increase awareness of the organisation within local communities and encourage more people to get involved with its activities.
The Boys’ Brigade works with young people aged four to 18 across the country, where they can enjoy a wide range of activities while also making friends, developing new skills, building confidence, independence and resilience, and being encouraged to make a real difference in their communities.
The organisation is made up of passionate individuals across the country and through the diverse activities they get involved in, every young person has a great story to share. We have always known the best way to increase engagement with the organisation is by putting the people centre stage and letting their stories speak for themselves. So, video and social media have played a huge role in providing a platform to share what The Boys’ Brigade means to them.
To take this to the next level, this year we organised a workshop to equip young leaders with the skills to create effective content for social media and delivered this at the annual Young Leaders Weekend.
Young Leaders Weekend was set up by the Boys’ Brigade with the aim to bring leaders aged 18-26 together, helping them to build connections, grow in confidence, share experiences and add their voice to shape the future of the organisation.
During the weekend, attendees have the opportunity to participate in a series of workshops and discussions, while also socialising with fellow leaders from across the country.
The Boys’ Brigade young leaders are passionate and engaged with the organisation. So to mobilise these leaders to be our eyes on the ground was crucial not only to help them generate content for their local groups but also for us to use across the national Boys’ Brigade social media channels.
Our workshop on the power of social media included a presentation on:
- Why social media is useful for growing The Boys’ Brigade
- How to create content for the target audience
- How content can be adapted to suit different social media platforms
- Advice on creating reels
- A cheat sheet was also left behind with how to develop weekly and monthly social media planners
During the weekend, we also conducted interviews with the young leaders about their experiences with The Boys’ Brigade and took a series of videos and photos for social media. Not only did this give us great content about the weekend, it also gave young leaders a chance to work with us to create content in a safe space for learning and inspire them to think about how they could use these learnings to generate their own content when they are back at their local groups.
The weekend was a great opportunity for young leaders to develop new skills and network with fellow young leaders so it was great to contribute a workshop that slotted seamlessly into the rest of the activity organised by The Boys’ Brigade. Since the weekend, we have already seen young leaders putting their skills to the test and we’re excited to support them as their communities continue to grow.
