This week, we’ve opened our application process for ambitious individuals across the North West with a passion for marketing, PR and communications.
Get your application in for our Young Talent Scheme’s autumn intake here!
What started as our graduate scheme in 2019 has evolved into our Young Talent Scheme (YTS) – because not all PR superstars need a degree. Each year we take on at least one ambitious individual in the PR/marketing/comms world to join our team and learn from the PR experts.
Working with schools, colleges and universities across the North West, each year the scheme attracts hundreds of applicants.
What might your experience look like?
Our current YTS team member, Emma, will be helping us to shortlist applications to take forward to the assessment day in November, held at our office in the Northern Quarter, Manchester. Emma joined us back in May 2024, and in the past six months has got involved in everything that Refresh has to offer, so she is the perfect person to help us find the next rising star.
We asked Emma for three highlights from her time at Refresh so far, here is what she said:
- Leading a filming session for our client The Boy’s Brigade to capture testimonials the parents of the BB members which formed part of a wider paid social campaign BB filming
- Representing Refresh and the Heating Installer Awards at the annual Installer Show in Birmingham – an action-packed three days with plenty of opportunities for generating content for our social media channels, chatting to prospective clients and getting the Refresh name out there
- Coming together as a team for agency strategy, wine tasting over tapas at a local restaurant and a competitive round of circus-themed Junkyard Golf to finish off at our Refresh summer day 2024
What would you have the chance to learn about?
Applications made through the website will be shortlisted, and we will take just 4-6 applicants forward to our assessment day, before we choose one candidate to join our team.
The successful candidate will be given their unique personal development plan and get to work immediately within the rest of the team. And if there’s one thing for sure, our young talent aren’t doing the brew rounds and sorting the post out – we think it’s really important that they get stuck in from the start!
Supported by our comms professionals, our young talent members will bring their own experiences to showcase their talents in video production and editing, social media campaigns and content creation. There will also be plenty of opportunities to develop and hone their skills across the entire PR and marketing spectrum, including media relations, copywriting, effective communication and client management.
The year-long programme teaches essential skills to be a PR superstar. And at the end of it? Well, we hope you’ll stay and progress even further, of course!
Interested? We’d like to hear from anyone age 18 and over. In this role we’re searching for someone who is curious, resilient, keen to progress, hungry to learn – and someone who is creative with lots of energy and ideas too! Our core values include honesty and integrity, teamwork and a positive mindset, so we’ll be looking for these during the application process.
Please note, this is an office-based role in Manchester city centre, where you will be working Monday-Friday, 9-5.30pm. Please only apply if you are able to attend the office each day to work.
What is the selection process?
We will undertake a comprehensive selection process with two stages:
- Website application – once you’ve answered the first five questions, your answers to the open-ended questions will be scored, using a score system we have internally. Unfortunately, due to the volume of applicants expected, we will not be able to provide individual feedback at this stage, but please be assured we will consider your answers carefully.
- Assessment day – you will be invited for an assessment day, in-person, with members of the Refresh team. During the day you’ll take part in lots of tasks with your fellow applicants, and also have a chance to ask the Refresh team lots of questions too. We will contact everyone from the assessment day the following day to inform them of our decision.
To apply for the Young Talent Scheme place, please answer the questions on this form.
The deadline for applications is Wednesday 13th November.
If you have been shortlisted, we will invite you to the assessment day which will take place in mid to late November. We would like our new team member to join us as soon as possible after this date.
