How to make the most of your award shortlists

The shortlist for the 2022 Construction Marketing Awards is out! Huge congratulations to everyone shortlisted.

Ultimately, the reason organisations enter awards is to win. However, there is so much more to awards than winning and being shortlisted is a huge achievement and something you should shout about.

From posting about the award shortlist on the organisation’s social channels, to updating the website, there are many ways you can promote your shortlist.

As such, we’ve pulled together just a few of our suggestions as to how to make the most of your award shortlist.

Use the official ‘shortlisted’ badge on all of your online business materials

Here are a few ways to use the official awards shortlist badge:

  • Website: Add the badge to the footer of your website so that it appears on every page next to your contact information. Better still, include it on the homepage so that it can be seen straight away when a visitor clicks on your site.
  • Cover photo on LinkedIn: Create a graphic to go as your company’s LinkedIn cover photo and include the badge on this. The graphic should reflect your brands colours and personality whilst also showing off your new award shortlist.
  • Presentations: Giving a presentation at an event? Include the award shortlist in the corner of each slide if it is relevant to the presentation you’re giving.
  • Owned content: Do you make eGuides or eBooks? Include the badge on your business materials if it seems relevant to the topic.

Post on socials

Businesses will most likely be sharing the official assets from the award, so why not create your own graphic to stand out?

Create a graphic that reflects your brand image and personality and use that to share your shortlist to ensure that you stand out amongst the crowd! Better still, create a moving graphic or a short video to show just how proud you are. If the team had a drink to celebrate, why not capture the moment and share that instead? Often, faces resonate with people far better than polished assets.

Share your content everywhere and don’t be shy to post more than once. The time between being shortlisted and the winners being announced is crucial for any business to ensure that you drum up excitement and get your name out there. There is a lot of noise on social media, so you need to make sure you’re seen.

Write a blog

Blogs are a great way to drive clicks to your website and ensure that you have a record of all your successes on your website. Write a short, easy to digest blog outlining the award you have been shortlisted for and how you managed to secure the shortlist.

Top tip for SEO: include the name of the award in the blog title!

Add it to your email signature

Don’t underestimate the power of an email signature!

Keeping your email signature updated regularly with awards and shortlist announcements will ensure that you are shouting about your business’ successes and increasing your brand awareness. Just think of how many external emails you make in a day, that’s a lot of people you could be telling your successes to.

Award shortlists are a great achievement, so congratulations! Be sure to share your success wherever you can!

PR materials

When was the last time you updated your spokesperson’s bio? Or the business’ boiler plate?

Well, next time you do, make sure to add your award shortlist. Whilst it is difficult to land media coverage for an award shortlist announcement, you can still include it in you PR materials to ensure that your message is heard.
