Before coming to Refresh, I knew I wanted to work in the media industry but I wasn’t too sure what sector I specifically wanted to work within. Since being here for my work experience, I now have a much greater idea of what I want to do in the future (hopefully working in marketing and PR). This is all thanks to the amazing team at Refresh and the fun range of activities I got to participate in.
Here’s what I got up to.
Day one
Getting this work experience placement at Refresh was very exciting for me and I couldn’t wait to get started. On Monday, I was introduced to the team and got the opportunity to speak to all of them for five minutes, which allowed me to learn more about what they do and how they’ve found their way to Refresh. I also observed the full agency meeting – seeing how they communicate was very insightful.
I was also given the chance to take over Refresh’s social media and post about myself. Finally, I learnt how to create social media graphics on Canva, which was super easy and very fun to use.
Day two
After such an interesting day, I couldn’t wait to be back in the office again. My second day saw me doing lots of different tasks, ranging from researching upcoming awareness days, building a media list and shadowing a client call.
It was amazing to see how awareness days are so important for marketing companies, even one like Hug a Plumber Day (which is on April 25th in case you want to put it in your calendar).
Moreover, shadowing the CIPHE client call was so insightful as it’s something you never really see unless you’re in marketing and, despite the serious nature of the call, it was still a laugh and full of jokes, which was brilliant to see.
Day three
Thursday couldn’t have come around fast enough. As soon as I arrived, I got straight into a LinkedIn personal branding masterclass where I learnt all the tips and tricks! I can’t wait to set up my own LinkedIn and use these tips such as: always use pictures of yourself and most importantly be HUMAN!
This was then followed up by a whole agency media management training session and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing how the whole team communicates with each other and use criticism in a positive and friendly way.
After lunch, I created a marketing plan for two potential new clients that Refresh might be working with this was really cool to do as it allowed me to think outside of the box and use my knowledge from previous activities to help me.
Day four
On Friday, I worked on this blog that you’re currently reading (and hopefully enjoying) while also finishing any of the tasks from previous days this week.
It’s been a wonderful experience doing work experience at Refresh and it has helped me understand what I want do in the future. I cannot thank Refresh and the team enough for giving me this insightful experience.
