Team Refresh PR joins in with Christmas Jumper Day for Save the Children

Friday was National Christmas Jumper Day.  Traditionally this is a day which kick-starts the Christmas festivities for many who don their colourful, fluffy, sequinned, sparkly sweaters in order to raise money for Save the Children.

Here at Refresh PR, we think that it is important to recognise the work that Save the Children does across the world, from providing aid to disaster victims to supporting children who come from impoverished families here in the UK.

For every £1 raised for Save the Children UK on Christmas Jumper Day, 88p goes to benefit children directly and 11p to help raise the next pound, whilst 1p goes on governance and other costs.

Refresh PR raised £40 over the course of the day, which will buy care packs like hygiene kits for children in crisis around the world, or could also buy safe home-birth kits for women.

Our Christmas Jumper Day was jam-packed with fun activities for us all to take part in. From galvanising support on social media for our own Christmas jumpers through to games such as guessing what’s on Jon Snow’s chest, we managed to rope in people from businesses across Manchester’s Northern Quarter to take part and dig deep.

Fliss won our social media competition and took home a bottle of bubbly for the weekend - and just so we don’t forget the winning jumper any time soon, here she is modelling it alongside the rest of the team on Twitter and YouTube.

Despite the fun we had, we still want to remember what this is all about.  We’d really appreciate it if you could visit and donate a couple of pounds to this wonderful cause.

Food Photography Masterclass with STM Photography

Manchester’s STM Photography, which specialises in food and drink photography, will be sharing the team’s skills at a food photography masterclass early in the New Year.

The masterclass will be held on 22nd January at STM’s studio in Ancoats, Manchester, and open exclusively to CIM members and those in the The Talk of Manchester network.

Refresh PR will also be playing its part by hosting a 20 minute session on Instagram before guests have a chance to use the app to take their own photos of piping hot, freshly prepared food straight from the STM Photography kitchen.  We’ve ‘cooked up’ a brilliant challenge for everyone, which will test the skills learned at the event.

The event will be of specific interest to those in the food and drink sector, plus those who wish to understand more about photography and Instagram.  To sign up for the free event, register here  We look forward to seeing everyone on the night!

Ten of the Best Christmas Jumpers for 2014

Blog drafted by Emilie.

Friday 12th December is Christmas Jumper Day in aid of Save the Children. The charity has secured the support of a whole host of celebrities for its annual campaign which is now in its third year and gaining momentum.

Strictly star, Frankie Bridge, along with the vivacious Fearne Cotton and mumpreneur Myleene Klass, have all been involved in digging out their favourite Christmas woollies to show their support for the charity.

Not to miss an opportunity for a bit of fun, the Refresh PR team will be getting involved too this year.  But on our quest for the most stand-out jumper of 2014, we’ve found there is just so much choice when it comes to festive fashion. So, we’ve donned our thinking Father Christmas caps and rated our favourite Christmas jumpers across the high street. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for our final choices on Friday!

10. When it comes to Christmas jumpers, not everybody likes to stand out as much we do here at Refresh PR. If you like to blend in whilst still feeling festive, check out this sparkly sequinned number from New Look

9. Christmas jumpers aren’t all sequins and glitter you know. Check out this fantastically festive and very manly ReinBEERS top, perfect for the pub on Christmas Eve

8. If you love Christmas films, Home Alone in particular, then this one’s for you - MERRY CHRISTMAS YA FILTHY ANIMAL!

7.  Those darn Christmas tunes are playing everywhere you go, so instead of getting annoyed, join in! JINGLE BELLS, JINGLE BELLS…

6. If you prefer your Christmas jumpers to be cosy, cuddly and all things fluffy then get hold of this gorgeous snowflake sweater, from our neighbours at Boohoo

5. For all the Scrooges out there, we recommend this delightful jumper from River Island. Just try to at least smile when you wear it

4. This jumper has everything: snow, a Christmas tree, twinkling lights (no seriously, it lights up)...but maybe it’s just a little too much?

3. Some of us prefer to think of the Christmas jumper season as an excuse for fancy dress, so if this is you, why not go for this (slightly eccentric) elf jumper from River Island

2. If you still like the idea of dressing up as an elf, but aren’t quite sold on going all out, this jumper provides the perfect solution

1. Our absolute favourite Christmas jumper from Peacocks combines festive colours, glitter and pompoms! So here it is, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

We absolutely adore Christmas fashion over here at Refresh PR, so why not let us know your favourite jumpers, or even send us a pic? Don’t forget to join in with Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day – find out how to get involved here.

Refresh PR’s Top 10 Festive Food Picks

Blog by Emilie.

It’s nearing lunchtime and we’re starting to think about food – again! Working in the city centre of Manchester gives us so many food choices, and every time we walk out of the door at the moment we’re surrounded by the sights and smells of Christmas food – we are spoilt, we know!

We’re all slightly addicted to Costa Coffee’s Orange Hot Chocolate and Gingerbread and Cream Latte. But drinks aside, we’ve pooled our thoughts together and come up with our favourite food picks for the perfect Christmas dinner. Our picks have been inspired by our food and drink client, Catering Academy, which has some creative and tempting festive dishes on its catering menu this year.

10. Roasties! Our mums, grandmas and aunties all have their own tips and tricks to make the perfect roast potato. They always taste better on Christmas Day too (and they beat Brussel sprouts!)

9. Roasted veg. Drizzled in olive oil and thyme, slow roasted veg has a gorgeous sweetness to it which you can only really appreciate on Christmas Day! We think that Jamie Oliver’s take on it is perfect

8. The turkey. As vegetarianism is popular here at Refresh, this one didn’t manage to get the 100 per cent vote needed for a #1 top spot. Plus, does anyone even care about the turkey? After around 100 hours in the oven, it’s usually as dry as toast and enough to keep a family of five going on turkey sandwiches for the next three weeks! Check out these turkey tips from Delicious magazine to help you out this year

7.  Christmas Pudding. For 364 days of the year, we all vehemently deny our love for fruit cake, but there’s something special about pouring brandy all over the pud and setting it on fire which appeals to us

6. Smoked salmon. If you’re not too hungover from Christmas Eve, you might wake up on Christmas Day to a champagne breakfast with smoked salmon pinwheels and scrambled egg. If salmon and eggs don’t excite you, have a read of Good Housekeeping’s breakfast ideas to savour the start of the day

5. Cranberry sauce. Sweet and a perfect accompaniment to turkey, this comes bang in the middle of our Christmas food list. We think Nigella has cracked it with her “Redder Than Red” recipe

4. Nut Roast. For those of you who haven’t tried it in place of turkey, it’s packed with protein and deliciousness. Our favourites include mushroom and cashew nut, and cranberry and Brazil nut. If you make one change to tradition this year, try this! We will be using this lovely recipe from this year

3. Pigs in blankets. Sausages wrapped in bacon, dipped in gravy - what’s not to love?!

2. The stuffing. Whilst not a key part of everybody’s Christmas dinner, we firmly believe that Tom Kerridge has possibly the most delicious recipe for stuffing in the world and you can find it here

1. The absolute winner has to be chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate. Really, any excuse for indulging in chocolate from 7am until we all collapse into bed during the early hours of Boxing Day is a winner for us here at Refresh PR! And if you feel a bit guilty the day after but still haven’t had enough chocolate, why not try Weight Watchers Jaffa Cake Hot Chocolate, it tastes deliciously festive!

If you have any suggestions or tips which we can add to our cracking Christmas menu, let us know in the comments below.
